Lima Sky, developer of the unnaturally successful and addictive Doodle Jump, has announced that its iPhone poster boy just passed the four million downloads mark. Since the game has never had a “lite” version or a limited free offer, all those downloads have been bought and paid for.

Doodle Jump has always exemplified the success of iPhone gaming to me. A game about a little green fellow who jumps from platform to platform with the aid of the iPhone’s tilt interface, it’s priced perfectly at 99 cents and has constantly been a fixture in the top ten iTunes charts. It’s cheap, easy, and excessively playable, and these factors have combined to make Lima Sky very rich indeed.

In short, it’s hardly surprising this game has become such a top seller. The so-called “major” publishers might want to take a page from Lima Sky’s book. Not that they will, the greedy bastards.
