Don’t wuss out, Sony: Controversy over Siena flags in GT5

We told you earlier how an Italian city wanted their track removed from Gran Turismo 5. That was like an invitation to dump on the Italian town and its people. And you did. But now it may be time to dump on Sony for giving in to their demands.

This town, Siena, raised a stink because Polyphony Digital used their “flags of the contrade” without their permission in a kart track in Gran Turismo 5. They said they’d go as far as to have the game pulled from shelves if the flags weren’t removed.

So Sony and Polyphony Digital may give in, it sounds like. A recent tweet from game producer Kazunori Yamauchi said “We can remove [the flags] in an instant,” and also added that “erasing them is somewhat regrettable.”

There’s no official word from either Sony or Polyphony Digital on whether they’re going to pull the silly flags, but I sure hope they don’t. I’d call Siena’s bluff. Don’t do it!
