Does Nightingale allow mods?

At your own risk

Nightingale has now launched into Early Access, and players have been downloading the game in droves, entering into the Fae Realms, and beginning their adventures. One question that’s floating around in these early days is: does Inflexion allow the use of mods within Nightingale?

Well, yes and no. There’s no official mod support. While Inflexion has explicitly said it discourages the use of mods due to the shared-world nature of the game, it accepted some players want to tweak their gameplay experience and, as such, the team has split mods into two categories: client-side and non-permitted.

Client-side mods

Client-side mods only affect the game for the person who installed the mod and doesn’t affect the world around them. This means mods granting player buffs or advantages are a complete no-no. While mods altering character appearance, sound effects, or the appearance of certain assets aren’t permitted, either.

Inflexion also stated if players plan to share modded images, they must do so while expressing which mods have been used and what those mods affect. In addition to this, customer support will not be available for issues that arise as a result of using mods.

Non-permitted mods

As I said, any mod providing an advantage to a player or changes the world around them for anyone but themselves will be pursued and those who use them will possibly face some form of punishment for doing so. Specifically, Inflexion has stated that these types of mods may result in players being banned from the game entirely.

Going further, Inflexion states:

“Mods that depict any content that portrays the Nightingale IP with offensive, misleading, grotesque, racist, sexist, ableist, vulgar, disparaging, derogatory, or defamatory materials are also strictly prohibited.”

Mod sharing

Inflexion takes a very firm stance on this. The studio does not permit through the official Discord server or other official channels. Additionally, the studio discourages sharing through other platforms.

In the same breath, Inflexion stated it does not endorse any modding websites, noting users “install at your own risk”.
