Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 use Denuvo?

Piracy prevention comes with a few caveats

As Dragon’s Dogma 2 approaches its March 2024 release date, more questions continue circulating in the minds of players eager to play. While some focus on price and performance, others wonder whether it has Denuvo, and if so, whether Capcom will remove this feature after launch.

Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 use Denuvo?

Yes, Dragon’s Dogma 2 features Denuvo. The game’s addition of Denuvo is confirmed through its Steam store page, and there are no immediate plans for its removal. However, while Capcom has added Denuvo to Dragon’s Dogma 2, this may change in the future.

Denuvo anti-tamper is a digital rights management, or DRM, program that helps prevent the piracy of video games. Its goal is to help keep games secure by making them harder to crack and re-release for free on pirating sites. It also helps detect players using cheats, making it easier to determine how to handle them.

There is a slight catch, though: performance issues. While this doesn’t affect everyone, it has a history of causing performance issues, such as frame drops for some players, occasionally deterring people from purchasing games that use it.

While Capcom is known to add Denuvo to various games, the company is also known for removing it after some time, with the most notable example being Resident Evil Village’s Denuvo removal. Although it had Denuvo for a while, Capcom eventually removed it. This isn’t the first time it’s happened, as they’ve also added and removed Denuvo from previous games like Resident Evil 3 and Devil May Cry 5. With this in mind, Dragon’s Dogma 2 may follow suit, but it may also take a year or longer for this to happen.
