District 9 and Chappie director’s live-action Anthem short shows promise

This game is right in Blomkamp’s wheelhouse

It’s a treat to see Neill Blomkamp do more Neill Blomkamp stuff, even if it’s in a limited capacity.

EA tapped the District 9 and Chappie director to lead the charge on a live-action prequel short for Anthem, BioWare’s jetpack-boosting shared-world shooter. It’s just a few minutes in length, but as Blomkamp was quick to admit, those three-and-a-half minutes “took a lot of effort to make.”

On whether or not anything more will come of Oats Studios’ Anthem partnership, the director simply said “I guess if audiences like it.” Purely visually speaking, I’d be interested in seeing more, but I’m not invested in any characters yet. Maybe we’ll get a round of shorts? Take it one step at a time.

For now, feel free to help me pressure Ray into finally watching Chappie, a movie he’s bound to dig.
