Discovery to make videogames based on nature

Forget Metal Gear Solid 4 or Final Fantasy XIII — Discovery has what you really want: Meerkat Manor: The Video Game is in the works.

Discovery Communications is partnering with Activision to make games based on popular nature shows, tying upcoming products to Discovery’s Animal Planet channel to lure in kids, teens, and animal lovers everywhere.

Reuters says that Discovery wants to cash in on the fast-growing younger and casual gaming audiences.

“We are really trying to get away from being a cable company and into being a content company,” says Discovery Chief Executive David Zaslav.

No titles other than Meerkat Manor: The Video Game were mentioned, but we can expect to see nature games coming in 2008. I hope there’s one in the works where we can play as Jeff Corwin. He’s kind fo a badass.
