“Disaster is right!” headline be gone; Disaster: Day of Crisis shows potential

When the Wii was first announced last year, there were two “mature” looking games on its tentative release slate. The first, Project: H.A.M.M.E.R. sadly looks to now be all but cancelled and the second, Disaster: Day of Crisis, kind of fell off the radar, even though Nintendo and developer Monolith promised it would be coming out … someday.

After a lukewarm reaction to the media released so far for the mysterious Disaster, some new screens quietly snuck out of Nintendo’s recent press conference and, I have to admit, they actually piqued my interest.

And, yes, before anyone states the obvious: of course the graphics don’t look as fancy as the high-def wonders possible on the Xbox 360 or PS3. But just take a look at this early screenshot dropped back in February and tell me if you don’t think things have improved quite dramatically. That’s all I’m saying …

If the final gameplay lives up to its epic, tsunami/earthquake/tornado dodging promise and is even half as fun as the underrated Disaster Report, this is one Wii game that I will most definitely have to check out.

What do you think? Am I crazy, or do you actually see some potential in these screens?
