Director Guillermo del Tor confirms game series with THQ

[Update: THQ just contacted us for some clarification on the del Toro deal. It seems that, for now, there is no deal — at least not officially. Here’s THQ’s official word on the matter:

At THQ, we are focused on the highest level of creative development by putting artists first.  Guillermo del Toro is one of many creative artists that we respect and would be interested in working with.  However, at this time, we do not have any formal announcement to make.

There you have it. Maybe someone dropped the news too soon?]

There were rumors but now it’s confirmed: director Guillermo del Toro is working with THQ on a project or two. He promises “huge games,” speaking to MTV.

“We’re working together,” said the director. “Hopefully everything will come together in the next few days and we can formally announce it and so forth. But we are talking about huge games, huge world creation and long deadlines.”

There’s multiple games, though he doesn’t say how many. What sucks is that Toro fans will have to wait, as the director says that they’re looking at a three year developing deadline for each game. He says that in the best case scenario we’ll see the first game in 2013.

As far as what we can expect, there’s very little in the way of details: “It’s horror…but it’s a very different type of horror game. It’s not survival horror. It’s truly a strange, geeky mix. It’s a Lovecraftian thing. Let’s leave it at that.”

While he hits home that the game will be a bit of a wait, del Toro says that announcements are coming soon. We’ll keep bugging THQ until they tell us something.
