Digital Extremes brings it harder than ever with Warframe: 1999, Jade Shadows, and Soulframe PAX reveals

This year is bigger than just Warframe: 1999.

Digital Extremes revealed a packed schedule for Warframe in 2024 beyond its major expansion during its latest live devstream from PAX, and even offered a glimpse at the upcoming Soulframe. The developer has major anniversary plans on the horizon, with three upcoming in-game content updates for Warframe in addition to the game’s eleventh anniversary and TennoCon2024 event.

The Jade Shadows update will hit Warframe ahead of this year’s major expansion. It’ll add Jade, an angelic Warframe, and will send players on a primarily single-player-focused quest to learn more about one of the most legendary characters in the game’s history: The Stalker. No details on when this update will drop have been revealed, but we know we’ve already got one coming at the end of March, so it’ll be at some point after that.

Warframe: 1999 continues to look as stylish as ever in its latest trailer

A new trailer for what Digital Extremes is calling its most ambitious chapter for Warframe yet, Warframe: 1999, was also revealed. In it, we get to hear Ben Starr, the absolutely fabulous voice actor behind characters such as Clive in Final Fantasy XVI, speak to a new character we’ve not met before.

Starr plays the role of Arthur, a Protoframe of Excalibur, and this new character, Aoi, played by Cyberpunk 2077‘s Alpha Takahashi, is a Protoframe of the Mag Warframe. I have to say that I love how the game is looking back at these iconic Warframes that shaped its early years of existence in what has to be the coolest expansion for a live service title we’ve seen in years. Unfortunately, we still have no release for this major expansion yet, but that might change come July.

The next Prime Access for Warframe has been confirmed as Protea. This tactical protector manipulates time to destroy her enemies sand is a powerful asset in battle. As you’d expect, all her weapons and a few customization options will be available in special new variations through Prime Access when she drops later this year. Based on the image above, she may be the most beautiful Prime Warframe in the game to date.

A new look at Soulframe

While we all just want a release date for Soulframe already, Digital Extremes still isn’t ready. But it doesn’t want us to think it’s forgotten about the game. Quite the opposite, in fact, because we’ve been given a short but stunning new trailer that features some nice poetry and a fantastic bear character.

I signed up to secure my Envoy’s name a couple of years ago, but I’d recommend you do the same if you’re desperate to feel like you’re helping the game along in some way. Obviously, it doesn’t help further development, but let’s face it, if we do nothing but wait, we’ll explode with anticipation for this unique RPG.

Warframe’s eleventh anniversary event kicks off on March 27, 2024. In addition to new in-game items, you can earn Twitch Drops by watching your favorite content creators. It feels like all of this is just the beginning for 2024, though, with Digital Extremes holding back a few surprises for the second half of the year as it did in 2023. It’s never been a more exciting time to be a Warframe fan, and don’t forget to check out the full devstream if you want to see every last second of Warframe that was revealed and discussed today.
