Did Bungie abduct a little girl? Halo teaser definitely hints at yes

It’s only been up for a few hours, but Bungie’s recently released Halo 3 teaser has sparked a silly controversy. For three frames of this trailer, the words “MADDIE, WHERE ARE YOU?” are seen. This is being taken by some as a reference to missing British toddler Madeleine McCann.

Madeleine has been in the press for over a year following her disappearance in Portugal. The parents of the girl had left her unattended while they socialized, and claim to have returned to their hotel and found that she wasn’t there. The story has achieved huge press coverage in British news outlets and has quickly become one of the UK’s most famous potential abduction cases.

Some believe that Bungie is hinting at the McCann case with its teaser, because this is the Internet and conclusions were made to be jumped to. Others believe this is a mere coincidence, but that it might not be the best idea in the world to include a missing person called Maddie in the new Halo 3 title.

Personally? I think it’s silliness. McCann really isn’t all that famous in the United States and I doubt too many people in Bungie have heard of her. If this is a direct reference to a missing British four-year-old, I’ll be pretty surprised. Most likely just another case of the Internet being adorable again.
