GRIN was a studio which looked set to explode but fizzled when their ambitious expansion plans backfired. Lackluster sales (and questionable quality) of the three games they released last year caused them to close up shop suddenly. Now, former developers at the studio have announced the formation of a new company, Whiteout.

At present, the studio has several projects planned, including a title using CryENGINE 3 which is in a demonstrable state. In addition, co-founder Joel Fagerlund has made comments regarding downloadable games, which could imply that they are working towards titles for console or PC services.

With the exception of Bionic Commando: ReArmed, everything GRIN touched fell short of my expectations. Well, almost everything. Terminator: Salvation wound up being almost exactly what I expected it would be. Hopefully these developers will see more success at Whiteout than their prior place of employment.
