Destiny 2 will be getting PS4 Pro and Xbox One X updates in December

Mostly HDR related

First off I have to crush your hopes and dreams — Bungie is not bringing a 60FPS update to the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro for Destiny 2. They already said the PS4 Pro can’t handle it, and I seriously doubt that they’re going to just hand over a massive advantage to the publisher that doesn’t have exclusive content, so we’re probably stuck in 30FPS limbo with that.

No, instead they’re bringing HDR to both upgraded consoles. Alongside of the December 5 Curse of Osiris DLC, Bungie will also employ a 4K HDR update. The key is, the Xbox One X seems to be rendering it natively, while the PS4 Pro will still employ its existing method of checkerboard rendering, just in HDR.

This whole console processing war is fascinating. At the moment we have a machine that’s more powerful than the competition in the Xbox One X, but select developers seem to be hesitant to fully take advantage of it. The same goes for full PS4 to Xbox cross-play — we still need Sony to give the go-head on it.
