“Kicks ass” works in two ways here. First off, great trailer, Atlus. It really gets you pumped for the game. But it also kicks your ass, and reminds you how much the game kicks your ass.
I haven’t had a lot of time to spend with my review copy due to travel, but the time I have had has been great. There’s not really anything else like this action RPG out on the PS3. But, as you’ll see in the trailer, it has no problem letting you know that the game is difficult. You start out as a weakling, a nobody. And you’re dead, really. Everything is a bitch. You will die so frequently that it isn’t even funny. When you do succeed, it will be like the heavens parted. It will be a glorious day. And then you’re off to the next dungeon to be beat down again. I can’t wait unitl my schedule clears up so that I can return for more sweet punishment.
Seriously, though: There’s no shame in saying that you suck at this game. Everyone sucks at this game.
Demon’s Souls launches on October 6th. A deluxe edition ($69.99) will include a 160-page strategy guide and a collectible slipcase. Pre-order the game and get the soundtrack and a 40-page artbook. Nice.
