Defender’s Quest: Valley of the Forgotten is one my favorite tower defense games, right up there with Immortal Defense, but I haven’t gone back to play it again. That’ll have to change soon — there’s an HD re-release with new cutscene art, sprites, and general improvements in the works.
This new version uses the same engine as Defender’s Quest 2 and will be a free update for owners of the original game when it arrives “sometime in the near future.” Your progress will carry over and if you somehow prefer the old art (really?), that can be toggled on/off.
Level Up Labs says the HD update will not slow down work on the sequel. “We’ve hired separate art contractors to HD-ify DQ1, and robustly testing the DQ2 engine against DQ1‘s data set was already a big part of my job in building DQ2,” writes designer Lars Doucet.
Looking forward to both!
