Deadly Premonition, that game we’re always talking about, has reached a landmark sales figure, having crossed the 50,000 mark in the United States. While clearly this number pales in comparison to the AAA games of the world, it’s still a huge success for an obscure budget game that everybody expected to disappear without a trace.

It would appear that the Internet’s fascination with irony has been a huge contributing factor to Deadly Premonition‘s sales. Obviously there was plenty of excited coverage on Destructoid, not to mention Giant Bomb‘s multiple videos, and the dedicated meme-producing cult that has surrounded Swery 65’s bizarre horror-comedy title.

As a huge fan of the game, this pleases me greatly, and it’s rather amazing to think that a $20 horror game that nobody heard of can become a success simply through word-of-mouth and the Internet. Fantastic, and encouraging, news. Zach would be proud.
