The latest expansion for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II comes with a Collector’s Edition and specific pre-order bonuses to capitalize on racial tensions between 40K fans. Pre-ordering the regular version gives you a pack consisting of four unique ability and Wargear items for one of the six playable races in Retribution‘s single player campaign.
The Ork Race Pack is exclusive to Steam while the Tyranid Race Pack is exclusive to THQ.com pre-orders. The other races — Space Marines, Chaos, Eldar and Imperial Guard — can be pre-ordered from Steam, THQ.com and “other” digital distribution outlets. The Collector’s Edition gives you access to all the race packs, which can also be individually purchased after launch, a poster and six race art cards for $39.99. Also, you can only pre-order the Collector’s Edition via THQ.com for some reason.
Since you always got more Wargear than you needed in the Dawn of War II campaigns to date, it makes you wonder if you’d really need this for anything but Primarch difficulty. Still, 10 bucks extra isn’t bad if you like the box and the other extras. What’s also interesting is that a female Witch Hunter appears to be on the Collector’s Edition box inlay and card with the redeem code. You can see the special I letter reflected in the box art’s Retribution title as well.
As the story in the Chaos Rising didn’t end well for your squad’s status within the Blood Ravens, after discovering your Chapter Master had been corrupted by Chaos, perhaps she will play a key role in your fight against the heretics. But then what kind of part would she play for the other race campaigns?
