David O. Russell ditches Uncharted film project

Variety is reporting that David O. Russell has walked away from the film adaptation of Sony’s Uncharted series. Industry insiders are referenced as saying that Sony will continue to pursue the project. The split is described as amicable, with creative differences cited as the cause for Russell’s departure.

Gosh, it’s hard to imagine that there might be some disagreement considering that what Russell described as his plans for the film sounds nothing at all like Uncharted, save for character names. I didn’t even think what was described would have been a bad film necessarily, but it wasn’t the franchise we’re familiar with.

Now the process will begin again. Sony will tap another director, story ideas will become public and the internet can be outraged about it all over again. Neato.
