Dave Oshry, one of gaming’s biggest charmers, wants to be less like Saul Goodman

Get to know the people who make great videogames

[Sup Holmes is a weekly talk show for people that make great videogames. It airs live every Sunday at 4pm EST on YouTube, and can be found in Podcast form on Libsyn and iTunes.]

Last  Sunday on Sup Holmes we spoke with Dave Oshry, the man who helped resurrect Rise of the Triad before becoming VP of Business Development at Gunnar Optics and CEO of New Blood Interactive (Super Galaxy Squadron). Dave’s pretty young to be a CEO and a Vice President, but in many ways, he has his youth to thank for his professional success. His ideal life consists of getting his friends together from around the world and having as much fun as they possibly can, and it was through following those ideals that he got to where he is today.

It struck me during our discussion is that Dave’s definition of “fun” seemed to be transforming right before my eyes. The fact that he openly identifies with the hubris-fueled fictional lawyer Saul Goodman says volumes on how Dave feels about where he’s been and where he’s going.

Once you’ve mastered the non-stop social circuit that makes up the life of a business and community developer, where do you go from there? It’s fun to make friends and even better deals, but what do you do when those friendships are already made and those deals are already done? For Dave, you start making the best videogames that you possibly can, and given how much he loves videogames, I have no doubt he’s going to be able to make the transition from social dynamo to behind-the-scenes producer in record time.
