Terrible British “newspaper” The Daily Star got its hands on a mocked up image of a Grand Theft Auto game based around Northumbria murderer Raoul Moat. Even though the Star admitted that the doctored image was the “only evidence” it had, the story was still ran the story “RAOUL MOAT: VIDEO GAME, FILM AND BOOK PLANS CAUSE FURY,” as if it were an iron-clad fact.
The source for the image was attributed to a number of “games websites”, although we sure as Hell have never seen it.
Even worse is the fact that the Star told the 69-year-old grandmother of one of Moat’s victims about the game so that she could — understandably — get upset over the idea.
“It is sick — it’s blood money. The game is beyond belief,” said Mrs. Ann Hornsby. She was right about it being sick, but it was the people interviewing her who deserved the criticism, not Rockstar.
The story has since been quietly pulled from the publication’s website. Hardly surprising, considering it’s perhaps the most libelous, irresponsible, grotesque example of pure shit to have ever been posted in a paper famous for its libelous, irresponsible grotesque shit.
And yet there are people out there who claim videogame bloggers need to act like real journalists. If the apes who write for the Star are allowed to call themselves journalists, then I am proud to be a “mere” blogger. I’ve never heard of a videogame blogger upsetting the relatives of murder victims just to tell some juicy lies, no matter how many people try and claim we’re the “worst” examples of journalism out there. As long as 90% of British newspapers exist, I’m glad to know I can never be the worst writer in town.
