How to beat the Chimera in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

You're mechin' me crazy.

Early on in Cyberpunk 2077‘s new expansion, your abilities will be put to the test. After V saves the president, the pair will be on the run from scavs and, eventually, have to take on a big boss fight with the Chimera to stay alive in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty.

The boss fight arrives during the quest “Spider and the Fly,” as V and President Myers are on the run. After Songbird takes over a Chimera mech to help them, it quickly goes rogue and starts attacking the duo.

After a quick chase sequence, it’s time for an all-out fight with the Chimera. The battle can be tricky, especially if you’re a little rusty from too much time away between Cyberpunk 2077 launch and Phantom Liberty. Here’s the best way to handle it.

This walking titan of a mech has a lot of damage it can dish out. Make sure to use the pillars and other level geometry to dodge some of its attacks. Alongside its regular guns, the Chimera can also:

  • Launch missile volleys (indicated by red markers)
  • Sweep the arena with a laser
  • Stomp the ground, creating electricity
  • Unleash a toxic gas cloud

Keep moving to avoid the machineguns and missiles, use the pillars or move between the upper/lower tiers of the arena to avoid the laser, and stay away from the lower area to dodge its close-range attacks.

As the game points out, the Chimera has identifiable weak spots, which are also highlighted for you if you have the Vulnerability Tactics upgrade from the Relic skill tree. Doing this can open up a brief window to pile on the damage, without fear of reprisal.

Besting the Chimera

After you’ve knocked the Chimera down, it will spawn Repair Drones, which you’ll want to take out immediately so it doesn’t recover health.

Otherwise, lay on the damage and stay away from the lasers. Depending on your build, there are some turrets littered around the room you can use to put extra hurt on the Chimera of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. Hackers can turn them to Friendly Mode, and tech adepts can also access some too.

Once its health is low enough, Myers will call for a finishing attack. Storm up the Chimera’s hull and finish the beast off, and make sure to collect the item that drops on the ground afterwards. You never know when a Chimera core will come in handy.
