The Crystal Sphere is one of many events present in Slay the Spire 2, and it’s one of the more rewarding as long as you pick the correct option.

Like almost every random event in the game, there’s a cost associated with the Crystal Sphere event. While you do get your fair share of rewards, there’s a short-run cost as well. Let’s look at how the event works and how you can make the most out of it.

How does the Crystal Sphere work in Slay the Spire 2

The Crystal Sphere is actually a mini game where items are hidden behind the blue circle. You’ll have two options: Big Divination and Small Divination.

  • Small Divination: When you choose Small Divination, you uncover fewer tiles on the Sphere. While you have access to fewer rewards with this choice, it’s a more controlled way to reveal the contents of the Sphere.
  • Big Divination: You reveal more tiles and more items on the Sphere, but it also raises the chance of getting unwanted items.

There are two ways to get picks.

  • You can pay 52 Gold and get to pick three times
  • You gain debt and get to pick six times

Which option should you pick with the Crystal Sphere in Slay the Spire 2

First, you have to decide whether to spend Gold or go the Debt route. The Gold route is safer, since the Debt route can be risky (especially in higher Ascensions). While you do get fewer picks, there’s almost no risk. At worst, you’ll end up with relics that might not offer any advantage.

The Debt card also can’t be played in your hand, and you’ll lose 10 Gold at the end of your turn. If the battle lasts for a long time, you can lose a fair amount of Gold. Also, the only way to nullify the Debt card is to discard it, which can only be done by a few characters, like Silent.

If you spend Gold, it’s best to go for Big Divination because you have just three picks. Hence, you’ll want to reveal as maximum number of items as possible from your limited picks. If you go with the Debt route, choose Small Divination. Since you have more picks, you’ll want to take a measured approach with your picks.

Ultimately, it depends on the situation of your run and how much risk you’re willing to take.
