Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled will let you deck out your karts

Better start saving those Wumpa Coins

It’s not enough to just win a race in Crash Team Racing you also have to look sharp when you’re showboating. Make your opponents curse your name. Get them to log off and have a restless night spent tossing and turning. Next month’s Nitro-Fueled remake is here to lend a helping hand with a range of customization options from skins and stickers to wheel and chassis types and even paint jobs.

I’ve been partial to the PS4’s polygonal retro skins for Crash, Coco, and Cortex ever since they made the rounds, but I’m sure I’ll find something else to glom onto after poring over the full list of character skins. For now, here’s a trailer showing some of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled‘s cosmetic choices.

How does the unlock system work? As you’d expect for a kart racer, basically.

According to Activision, customization items are “gained by progressing through the Adventure Mode and by earning Wumpa Coins. Collect these coins by playing the game then visit the game’s Pit Stop area and unlock a greater number of goodies. This means you can practice your racing, take on the game’s challenges, and unlock customization rewards to create the kart of your dreams.”

This might go without saying, but just in case, these sorts of items won’t impact your racer’s speed, acceleration, or turns. Rather, “your stats only change based on the character you play as.”

I always resented Mario Kart players who went with the big-vehicle-little-wheels combo, so if I see you out there rocking that garish look in Crash Team Racing, know that you’ve got a target on your back. It won’t be long! Nitro-Fueled hits Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on June 21.
