D3Publisher recently revealed several new screens for Coraline, a game based on a Neil Gaimen novel and an upcoming flick of the same name. The screenshots that we were given are for the PlayStation 2 version of the game, but are probably applicable to the Nintendo DS and Wii versions that will be arriving in stores at the same time early next year.
As one can readily observe from the screenshots, Coraline will task players with puzzles, exploration, and some kind of rhythm mini-game with mice. The tails on the mice are grossly disproportional to their little bodies. It is sad to see a developer miss the mark so badly, especially considering that they probably modeled the mice in Coraline after the real marching band of mice currently living in my basement.
The goal of the game’s heroine, Coraline, is not exactly so clear. It appears as though it has something to do with traveling to a mystical (and mysterious) place dubbed Other World and dealing with an evil hag named Other Mother. After hearing this, we placed a call to my mother to find out if she was in the game or if she would comment on its story elements. She didn’t respond by press time.
