This is your one-way ticket to Hell and back

Throw up your horns and enter our contest to win a Switch copy of Slain: Back from Hell.

We’re bringing in a new year, which means I want to bring in a new me. I’ve decided that I’m not going to give any more games away ever again.

And just like all New Year’s resolutions, it’s already been broken. Oh well, there’s always next year.

I guess I’ll just give away a bunch of Switch copies of Slain: Back from Hell.

For most of you, the words “sidescrolling heavy metal metroidvania” is pretty much all I need to put here to convince you to enter the contest. For the rest of you, I’ll say it again: It’s a sidescrolling, heavy metal metroidvania. You play as Bathoryn, a slain hero risen again to free the six realms from evil overlords. You’ll use the power of your elemental sword to prey on enemies’ weaknesses, and the power of heavy metal to have a good time doing it. Metal fans will be pleased to hear that former Celtic Frost guitarist/bassist Curt Victor Bryant recorded the game’s soundtrack to ensure that it’s the most metal it could possibly be.

Read some bullet points!

  • Challenging “elemental”-based melee and magical combat
  • 6 hours of bone-crushing, metal-fuelled mayhem and grisly gore
  • Choose from 3 unique weapons in your fight against the demon hordes
  • Full soundtrack recorded by Curt Victor Bryant formerly of Celtic Frost
  • Cunningly concealed secrets (shhh)
  • Boss fights, mini-boss fights, sub-mini- boss fights and macro-sub- mini-boss fights
  • No laborious leveling, no tedious grinding, no wimpy crafting!

Crafting is pretty wimpy.

And hey, if the gothic setting isn’t your thing, then maybe I can interest you in space? The team behind Slain is hard at work on the game’s spiritual successor, Valfaris. There simply aren’t enough heavy metal space operas, in my opinion. You can play a demo of the game from its Steam page. But be quick! It expires at the end of the year. Have fun while you can! It’s here to stay, folks! Demo away.

To enter to win a copy of Slain, comment below telling us a new setting where you’d like to see a heavy metal adventure. I think a heavy metal western would be really interesting. There’d be horses and cowboys and Indians like you’d expect, but they’re all decked out in leather and spikes as they ride alongside a train. And I’d really like to hear a heavy metal version of that little ditty they always play right before a duel. Someone make this happen.

We have eight NA and two EU keys to give away — make sure you comment telling us which region you are. Winners will be drawn on Friday, January 4. Be sure to comment using a Dtoid-generated Disqus account, and that your account is up to date with your current email address.

Slain: Back from Hell is currently available for Switch, and can also be purchased for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Head over to Nintendo Enthusiast for more chances to win!
