Contest: Save the kingdom in turn-based RPG For the King

We’ve got Switch and Xbox One keys up for grabs

What you you do for the king? Enter today’s contest for a Switch or Xbox One copy of RPG For the King!

Somewhere around the end of the PS2/beginning of PS3 era, RPGs turned their collective backs on the turn-based combat system, opting for the more action-RPG battles found in MMOs. That sucks. I like turn-based battles! It gives me time to think, strategize, and eat a sandwich. Who the hell wants to play a video game if they can’t take a sandwich break at leisure?

For the King is a tabletop-inspired RPG featuring turn-based combat! It’s about damned time. We’ve got some Switch and Xbox One copies to give out. Come win one.

In the interest of not saying anything dumb, I’ll shut up and let developer IronOak Games tell you all about it.

For The King is a strategic RPG that blends tabletop and roguelike elements in a challenging adventure that spans the realms. Incredibly replayable, venture forth into the lands of Fahrul and discover that every playthrough is unique with procedural maps, quests, and events. Just remember adventurer, you do this not for riches or fame but for your village, for your realm, For The King!

For The King‘s most replayable aspect comes in the form of Lore. Lore is generated through battles, story content, quests and more and is a currency that is carried through each of your playthroughs, giving the player a real sense of player progression. Lore is used to purchase new Characters, Customization Options, Locations, Encounters and Items to continue to vary and enhance your gameplay as you continue to save Fahrul.

Key Features:

  • Procedurally Generated Maps – Explore a procedurally generated world, from maps to quests to events, where every adventure is made unique.
  • Singleplayer and Multiplayer Game Modes – Explore the lands of Fahrul alone, or with friends in local co-op or online multiplayer. Stick together for protection, or split the party to cover more ground.
  • Turn-based Combat System – Fight and die as a party in fast paced and brutal turn-based combat using a unique slot system for attacks and special abilities.
  • Includes all free updates – Following the success of For The King on PC, the console version of the game will include all the existing expansion packs for the game – including the DUNGEON CRAWL, FROZEN EXPANSE, HILDEBRANDT’S CELLAR, GOLD RUSH AND INTO THE DEEP adventures.

While I don’t condone monarchies, I do condone this particular video game.

Ooooh that smell. Can’t you smell that smell? To enter to win, tell me what that smell is.

We have five Switch NA and five Xbox One (region-free!) keys to give away. Winners will be drawn on Monday, June 3. Make sure to comment using a Dtoid account with your current email address on file. New users can sign up here to describe that smell that surrounds you.

For the King is available now for Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
