Free? On the PSP? Really?

Famitsu magazine has revealed that Zero Div, the developers behind the RPG Class of Heroes, will be releasing a free game for the PSP. It’s called Bakumatsu Revolution, and it’s a four-player dungeon crawler. That’s my cup of tea, but it may not be yours. Then again, you can’t complain about a free game that much.

The game is supposed be 10 hours long, and in it you’ll take on quests in randomly generated dungeons. You start out creating your own character, picking from either a fencer, monk or knight. There’s solo and co-op quests that you can take on from a town pub. As for the co-op side, four players can team up over an ad-hoc connection. You’ll come together to take on a boss on the final floor.

What’s just as cool as the price is the distribution. Acquire is going to set it up so that ones that have downloaded the game can pass it onto others via wireless connection.

There’s always a “but.” In this case, there will be optional downloadable content, including add-on scenarios and items. Still, a free game on the PSP is great news.

Bakumetsu Revolution will hit the Japanese PlayStation Store on June 25th.
