Presumably, a company wants to portray its videogames in the best possible light when showing them off in trailers, right? I mean, you wouldn’t release a trailer for a game where the player models clipped through each other and the footage chugged along at a measly fifteen frames per second, right?
With that said, I don’t quite understand the above teaser for 2K Sports’ Major League Baseball 2K9 . Sure, they’ve got Tim Lincecum’s windup down pat, and the Mets’ brand-spanking-new ballpark, Citi Field, looks fantastic. But if you watch the video — specifically, from 0:47 to 0:50 — you’ll see something that has always been a nagging nuisance for me in sports games.
Didn’t catch it yet? Look more closely — notice the way the baseball comes out of Lincecum’s hand. It doesn’t quite look natural, does it? The ball takes a different path from the one it would’ve taken if it followed the laws of physics and actually left Lincecum’s hand properly. See what I’m saying?
Sure, I’m nitpicking here; this is just a pet peeve of mine, and it shouldn’t detract from the overall gameplay experience. Here’s hoping that MLB 2K9 at least delivers on that front. We’ll find out in a month — it’ll be out for PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, and PSP on March 2, 2009. Here’s what it will feature , here are some screenshots , and here’s the game’s Web site .
