A new trailer for Velocity 2X has been posted to PlayStation Blog, giving a little tease of the game’s progress and showing off some slick, fast-paced gameplay. The accompanying post gives some insight into what Futurlab is working on, mostly related to visual effects, with the art team drawing inspiration from the aesthetic of the classic Flashback adventure game.

That’s not the only similarity to Flashback either, as you can see some of the game’s running segments, new to Veolocity 2X, in which the player exits their ship and blasts through corridors in 2D platforming segments.

I love the combination of these two gameplay styles, and it appears from the trailer that these segments should maintain the momentum of the game, albeit horizontally instead of vertically. I can totally see myself replaying stages of this over and over again to attempt perfect runs.
