CES: PS Vita sells 500,000

Sony Computer Entertainment chief Kaz Hirai has stated that the PlayStation Vita’s sold over 500,000 units to date. Unusually for a Sony man, he did not hide behind “shipped” figures this time, instead using actual sales.

The Vita launched on December 17 in Japan, where it didn’t enjoy the fastest of starts. Nevertheless, we’re yet to see how it fares in North America and Europe, and there’s every chance of the system gaining ground over time.

North America will get hold of the Vita on February 22. The Wi-Fi version will cost $250 while the 3G alternative costs $300, plus AT&T data charges.
