CES: Even better: Afterglow headset sees new improvements

Still has pretty lights

We reviewed and really liked PDP’s Afterglow wireless headset last year, mostly for its excellent sound quality and pricing. We liked that it worked with all consoles and mobile devices, too. Really, the only thing we didn’t like was the headband, and PDP told us at a CES meeting that they heard the same thing from other users. They’ve improved the Afterglow in this and other areas to make an even better follow-up, now called the Afterglow Prismatic Wireless Headset.

The name comes from the lit earcups, which now have a feature that lets you hold the mode button down to gradually scroll through 16 million or so colors. Simply let up on the button when you see a color you like.

The headband where they’ve improved the product greatly, getting away from the clear, glowing plastic band and moving into a nice, soft, more standard band that will both look and feel better on your head. As you’ll see in the gallery, the headset went from ugly to quite nice looking. I’m partial to the white model.

In the usage department, not much has changed, which is good, as the previous model sounded great. The same drivers and retractable noise-cancelling mic have moved over to the Prismatic. A 10-hour rechargeable battery should keep you going.

The PDP Afterglow Prismatic wireless headset should be available in March, priced at an MSRP of $110 — a very nice price for a wireless universal set. They come in both white and black. This time around they’ve included a headset carrying case.
