CD Projekt RED’s extremely busy future

Five games between 2014 and 2016

Polish developer and creator of The Witcher games CD Projekt RED looks like it’s going to have its hands full over the next few years, according to their recent strategy report, with choice morsels translated by The Witcher forum member Kodaemon.

This year will see the launch of the REDkit beta, CDPR’s impressive toolset for modders, which I’m pretty damn excited about. I’m not particularly proficient at modding, but I can’t wait to see what more creative minds will come up with using the software.

2013 will also play host to the developer’s first “non-computer game” based on The Witcher series. Perhaps a CCG or PnP title? If it’s the latter, it means that CDPR are looking to buy the rights, which are owned by another publisher.

CDPR are also planning on expanding their international operation by opening up a branch in the US, specifically for marketing and PR purposes.

Between 2014 and 2016 is where CDPR starts to get really busy, it seems. Firstly, there’s the launch of The Witcher 3 on at least “three strong platforms” including the recently announced PS4, and PC. Beards and horses, yes please. There’s also the arrival of Cyberpunk 2077, based on the PnP game, the creator of which is working with the developer.

On top of these two major releases are a few smaller, unnamed ones. Two 20 hour titles (as if that’s small) will be developed to support one of CDPR’s existing brands, though they aren’t revealing which one. A monster-slaying strategy game set in The Witcher universe is something I’d throw money at, but it could be anything. An unannounced cross-platform mobile game is also in the works, again for one of the developer’s current IPs.

Finally, there’s the actual launch of REDkit. I’m hoping that’s closer to 2014 than 2016, especially since the beta will start this year. Of course, planning for a long beta might be a good idea — plenty of time to iron out all the kinks.

Which release is causing you to salivate the most, if any?
