Catherine in ‘final tuning’ stage of development

Roughly a month following the game’s first reveal in Famitsu, Catherine seems to be much further along than we could have anticipated. Character designer Shigenori Soejima revealed via the game’s official development blog that the sexually-charged adventure from Persona Team is “undergoing final tuning” right now.

The blog has a number of other interesting tidbits. This includes a point where Soejima offers justification for the game’s erotic elements, saying that they, “cannot be done away with if you want to realistically portray adult love. If you omit it because it’s a consumer game, it’s unnatural.”

Hear, hear. The idea of sex simply for sex’s sake — though it certainly can be fun — isn’t what I need from videogames. I have b-grade horror movies filling that role quite nicely already. It’s all about the context, and I’m eager to see a game that can address relationship issues and portray believable adults having said issues. I don’t believe that’s possible if we’re not willing to accept that people slap skin together as a part of that process. Hopefully Persona Team can achieve that for me.

Now, Atlus, when exactly is Catherine coming to the United States? Don’t make me beg.
