Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Almost an 8-bit remake

Recommended Videos

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is looking really good. The new game has no ties to previous Castlevania games, but as producer Dave Cox told us, Lords of Shadow began life as a remake of the original 8-bit Castlevania:

The original concept was to remake the original classic 8-bit game in 3D. That was our original pitch, funny enough, with Simon Belmont and everything. We soon realized as we were doing the prototype that actually that’s probably not a good idea. It’s already been done before with Super Castlevania IV anyway. So we thought let’s do something really original, really new.

And that’s exactly what we’re getting now with Lords of Shadow. Dave says this is a “love letter” to Castlevania fans and we definitely got that sense from last night’s presentation. Needless to say, I’m really looking forward to a hands-on at this year’s E3.
