Last year when I had a chance to see a demo of Sega’s upcoming Iron Man game, I was told that the voice talent hadn’t been nailed down. This was surprising to hear considering the game is based on an upcoming film; surely the film’s talent would sign on to be part of this momentous event!
Sure enough, Sega has announced today that the game will feature the voice talents of Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Terence Howard (Lt. Col. James Rhodes), and Shaun Toub (Yinsen). This is good yet not surprising news, but please remember something: being a good (or even decent) film actor or actress does not always translate to voice acting in videogames. Anyone who has played Activision’s Spider-Man 3 can attest to this — the entire cast couldn’t have sounded more apathetic and disconnected from the game itself.
The Iron Man videogame will be available for the Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation Portable day and date with the film’s May 2 release.
