The DLC avalanche keeps on rolling

In a Q&A summary regarding Capcom’s revised financial forecast, which recently made headlines for its even greater focus on downloadable content and cancellation of projects that did not fit within this new strategy, it has been clarified that no currently announced titles were dropped.

“There were a few titles scheduled for the current fiscal year, but most of the cancelations were for releases planned in the fiscal year ending March 2015 and subsequent fiscal years,” reads a response. Good to know one way or the other, I suppose, but now we’ll be left wondering what could have been. I’ll go ahead and guess “Mega Man … all of them.”

Elsewhere in the Q&A when it was suggested that few companies have implemented the DLC strategy successfully, Capcom reiterated its thinking: “Currently, the AAA titles of a few companies dominate the downloadable content market as the sales volume of midsize and small titles declines. We plan to formulate an appropriate strategy based on the scale of each title.”
