Capcom pushing for better story modes in its fighters

Strategic marketing group wants ‘more and better’ single-player content

Capcom senior VP Christian Svensson has once again made an interesting remark in a response to a fan-submitted question on the Ask Capcom forums. On the topic of story modes in fighting games, and whether or not the company has looked at changing its focus for the genre, he wrote:

“The strategic marketing group here has for quite a while been pushing for our fighting franchises to have more and better single player content, of which full fledged story modes are one component. How and when those requirements manifest in our future roadmap, I’m not prepared to speak about at this time.”

While all of the bonus content included in 2011’s Mortal Kombat certainly helped, the story mode went a long way in cementing it as a memorable gaming experience. That, and Shao Kahn absolutely kicking my ass until I became accustomed to playing as Raiden. Not being big into the online scene, strong single-player modes are essential to my long-term enjoyment.
