Capcom: ‘Never say never’ to WayForward-created Mega Man

Recommended Videos

Like a lot of people who constantly think about videogames, I’ve often fantasied about what it would be like if my favorite developers had the opportunity to take on the franchises that made them who they are today What would the Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. be like in the hands of the Edmund McMillen, creator of the Zelda inspired The Binding of Isaac and the Super Mario-tribute Super Meat Boy? What would Gaijin Games do with the Sonic franchise, or Daisuke “Pixel” Amaya with the Metroid series? What if WayForward made the next Mega Man game.

Out of all these misguided game development fantasies, that last one probably makes the most sense. From WayForward‘s history with Capcom, to their effort to insert a catchy tune into every second of every game they create, to their steadfast dedication to excellence 2D animated graphics, character design, and level design, all of the studio’s strengths just beg to be applied to a new Mega Man title.

The community over at Capcom-Unity had the same idea, and in typical Capcom style, Capcom Senior Vice-President Christian Svensson jumped into the discussion with an heartfelt and honest response: “I’m also a WF fan and I’m familiar with their work. I’ll never say never but there’d be a million approvals before a MM title could ever be produced in the West.

It also took a million approvals for Capcom to get Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom brought to the West, but Capcom USA managed to pull that off in the end. Anything is possible with dedication and love of the source material. Make it happen, Capcom. It’ll do your reputation a world of good, and make Mega Man fans everywhere fappy as huck.
