Capcom isn’t going to abandon the UMD format just yet

Although Capcom is putting out fighting game Fate/Unlimited Codes as a digital download through the PlayStation Portable Store, rather than the typical release on UMD, the company is not abandoning the disc format … yet.

“We certainly do not intend to stop supporting UMD,” a spokesperson for Capcom Europe explained to MCV. “Certainly for us PSP is very important — more so with Monster Hunter coming — than maybe any other publisher.”

With Patapon 2 and now Fate/Unlimited Codes being tested as digital downloads on the PSP, it certainly appears as if more and more companies are preparing for the transition to the oft-rumored UMD-less PSP Go!, doesn’t it? As far as I’m concerned, the less gaming crap I have to carry with me on trips, the better.
