Capcom copies ‘Splosion Man with MaXplosion

The world of mobile gaming is no stranger to rip-offs. Most games on the App Store are cheap clones of the popular stuff, but copycat titles generally come from two-bit bedroom developers out for a buck, not a major publisher like Capcom. So how do we explain MaXplosion?

It’s not just the explosion-themed platforming gameplay — the design of the character and his personality both seem eerily similar to Twisted Pixel’s popular Xbox Live Arcade game, ‘Splosion Man, as does the setting and level design. Unlike Explodemon, this can’t be a genuine case of coincidence. It looks downright shifty.

The familiarity certainly resonates with Twisted Pixel programmer Mike Henry, who Tweeted: “MaXplosion gameplay video makes me sad. If you’re going to outright steal a game, you should at least understand what makes it fun … Borrowing is great. Hell, we do it all the time. But that game is a complete theft.”

I heard that they’ll soon be announcing Super Bacon Child, Castle Smashers, Graphic Novel Leaper and Gumbo.

Gameloft called, it wants its entire modus operandi back.
