In anticipation of a movie which isn’t coming out until August of next year, Capcom is about to unleash an iPhone game based on The Smurfs, what the press release we received promises is the first in a series. Gargamel sympathizers may have a very, very long year to come.

Smurfs’ Village will have players rebuilding the Smurfs’ village after it has been destroyed by Gargamel. Starting with a lone mushroom house, you’ll perform (likely repetitive) tasks to slowly return the village to its former glory. There are minigames and you will be able to connect your game with Facebook in some way. The game will be out in November and will be free.

It all sounds very FarmVille, especially since Capcom is offering to let you speed up the development of your village with microtransactional “Smurfberries.” I have a soft spot in my heart for the little blue guys (still have my Smurfs game for ColecoVision, in fact) but I’m not going down that dark hole again on their behalf. No sir.
