Capcom Arcade opens up on iPhone

This week, Capcom has launched a new push into the mobile marketplace with Capcom Arcade. The free app, which you can download from the App Store, makes available ports of Capcom’s arcade library and gives the option of paying for single-play “Tokens” (ten for $0.99) or purchasing the games ($2.99 each) for infinite play.

Sound familiar? Yeah, it’s pretty much the Microsoft Game Room but Capcom-exclusive and on an iPhone. Capcom Arcade offers two versions of each game, one which is a faithful port of the original and another which softens difficulty for easier play on a handheld. The first four titles are Street Fighter II, Ghouls ‘N Ghosts, 1942 and Commando.

I can’t say it’s something which particularly thrills me. But Capcom does have one trick up their sleeve: The app itself is free, but they also award you three free plays each day. So, if that’s enough to satisfy you, I guess you’d never have to pay a dime to play whatever you want.
