Candulhallow’s Tombstones password in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

It's just door after door.

One of the more cryptic escapades in Baldur’s Gate 3 involves Candulhallow’s Tombstones. No, it’s not a cemetery. It’s actually a rundown business in Lower City. Unbeknownst to citizens, though, it hides a dark secret.

The place is actually a front for the Murder Tribunal. This gathering of cultists pays tribute to the God of Murder, Bhaal. Players must reveal this evil as part of a quest. Namely, a Gauntlet named Devella Fountainhead tasks them with solving a series of murders in the “Investigate the Murders” subquest. This stems from a larger quest: “Get Orin’s Netherstone.” However, unearthing the sadistic secret requires a few steps.

Candulhallow’s Tombstones is locked up tight. There are two options for getting in. You can pick the lock if you have the necessary skill. Alternatively, you can slay Dolor, the suspected serial killer who wants to join the Murder Tribunal. Looting his corpse gives them the key to the place. You detective work isn’t finished, though.

After accessing the shop, you’ll find a Butterfly on Skull painting in the back office. Taking this off the wall unveils another door. Unfortunately, this can’t be picked or unlocked through traditional means.

Finding the password for Candulhallow’s Tombstones

To get past this obstacle, you need the password: “Sicarius.” The game has a few ways to attain it. The most obvious is Dolor. Killing or pickpocketing him reveals a note detailing the “Dirge of The Unholy Assassin.”

On the other hand, you could become one of those eponymous assassins. In Freygo’s Flophouse lies a Bloodstained Parchment with a list of names. These are targets marked for murder. Killing two of them proves players’ devotion. A cultist named Olfaith Olumssdottir then reveals the password.

The final method is the most obscure. It involves necromancy. Inspecting the aforementioned targets exposes Dolor’s guilt. If he escapes the initial confrontation, he goes to the Facemaker’s Boutique. Another fight breaks out, during which he may kill Devella. All seems lost.

Thankfully, magical players have a morbid hope. Using the “Speak with Dead” spell, you can have some parting words with Devella. She then gives the password and location of the cult’s activities. True, this is a roundabout method of busting up their ritual, but it still works.

Any one of these tactics is viable for infiltrating the Murder Tribunal. It all depends on your playstyle. That open-ended nature is among the core appeals of Baldur’s Gate 3.
