This September, NHL 2K9 is going to be the first simulation hockey game on the Wii. But if you’re looking for some non-simulation hockey action on the family-friendly console, boy, have I got some news for you! Big Blue Bubble, a game developer based in London, Ontario, Canada, is mostly known for its mobile games, including such titles as 24: Agent Down and Red Faction II. But they’ve also done a fair number of “console” games, i.e., DS games, and they’ve got one WiiWare game, Home Sweet Home, under their belt.
Now, they’re getting into the sports game market with Hockey Allstar Shootout, a game that’s being advertised as “the first of its kind on the WiiWare platform.” From the press release (post-jump), it doesn’t appear to be a hockey game so much as a collection of three hockey-based minigames, but hey, who’s counting? As expected, you’ll hold your Wiimote like a hockey stick.
The “Sharp Shooter” minigame involves, you guessed it, aiming for targets in a goal. “Power Shot” will test the speed of your slapshot. Lastly, you can take on “the best goalies in the world” in the “Head to Head” shootout mode. There’s no release window, but you’d think they’d get the game out in time for hockey season. Either way, Hockey Allstar Shootout looks to be designed with the casual crowd in mind, but who knows? It could be fun…right?
