Perhaps one of the most beloved tricks for Geno lovers, and maybe even a reason for why people love the little puppet guy, in the original Super Mario RPG, he was able to take out Exor in a single shot. Can you still one-shot Exor in the Super Mario RPG remake?
It’s a good question, since the only reason Geno could one-shot the boss in the original version was because of a glitch. Bosses are supposed to be immune to the massive critical damage dealt out by the Geno Whirl, and the only reason Exor wasn’t was because of a bug. Typically, bugs get fixed when a game is remade, and since this is a high-profile on that has been talked about for years since the game’s release, it wouldn’t be surprising if Nintendo fixed it. So, is the bug still in the game?
Yes. It is. You can still one-shot Exor. Though, it’s probably a feature and not a bug anymore.
How to one-shot Exor
Exor is a late-game boss that you see in the opening prologue of Super Mario RPG. It’s the sword that jams itself into Bowser’s Keep. You fight it at the end of the Return to Bowser’s Keep chapter right before you enter Weapon World.
Technically, you might not call this a one-shot. Exor is immune to all damage until at least one of its eyes is taken out. However, after one is knocked out, you can hit Exor with a Geno Whirl.
To start off, obviously, you’re going to need Geno on your team, and he has to be a high enough level to have learned Geno Whirl. I am fairly confident you passed that point a long time ago but feel free to prove me wrong.
Once the eye is down, you simply need to score a critical hit with Geno Whirl. To do this, you need to hit the attack button at the moment the Whirl (blade, circle, whatever) passes over Exor. If you do it properly, Exor will take 9999 damage, and the fight will immediately be over.
Bit of an anti-climax? Maybe. Completely awesome? Totally.
