Can you change your gender in Honkai Star Rail?

Male or female? You decide!

Honkai: Star Rail is set up just likeĀ Genshin Impact when it comes to your main character; you can select your gender in Honkai: Star Rail. You can pick either male or female as your hero awakens from their slumber. However, once you’re further into the game, you may wonder if you can change your gender mid-way through the game.Ā Let’s get to the topic!

Is it possible to alter your gender in Honkai Star Rail?

At the time of writing, there is no way to switch the gender of your main protagonist. Once you pick your chosen gender inĀ Honkai: Star Rail,Ā you’re stuck with it. The game even warns you and double-checks that this is the version you want.

If you want to become Stelle (female) or Caelus (male), you’ll need to create a new account and start again from scratch. Yes, you’ll lose all of the characters you’ve gained from the Warp system like Arlan, Asta, or Seele. If it’s still early in the playthrough though, it’s certainly worth considering.

Does the protagonist need to be in the party?

If you want to continue yourĀ Honkai: Star Rail journey and don’t want to see the protagonist in your party, you’re in luck. Once you unlock enough characters through the Warp system or story, you’ll be able to replace either Stelle or Caelus from your four-person squad with another teammate. While they’ll still appear in cutscenes, your regret is somewhat extinguished, at least while in combat and exploring the world. Get to the menu (which has your character looking at a phone) and then select “Team Setup.” From there, click on the main protagonist and then choose a character to switch him or her out.
