Call of Duty 4 rules the world (in sales for 2007)

Activision announced today that Call of Duty 4 has nabbed the coveted “most units sold worldwide for calender 2007” title. So, how many units had to be sold to beat out the likes of Halo 3 and Wii Play? 7 million, according to The NPD Group, Chart Track, and The GFK Group.

It isn’t hard to see why Call of Duty 4 has sold so well. After all, the game has recieved top honors from many publications and has even become the most popular title on Xbox Live. Factor that in alongside the series’ popularity and you’ve got yourself an explanation for the widespread success.

It’s hard for me to come up with a list of games that are more deserving than Call of Duty 4, which is why I’m so mad that Infinity Ward won’t be making the game’s successor. It’s not that I hate Treyarch so much as I really just want IW to be at the helm again.

It’s their creation, so why not let them continue to expand it?
