In an interview with Bungie Design Director Joseph Staten I was repeatedly told that yesterday’s announcement about the developers Activision partnership was not about the announcement of a specific game. Instead, it was an announcement about a ten-year deal encompassing “a new universe of stories, a new universe of games.”

While Staten wouldn’t tell me when they planned to reveal the brand new IP, he did make one thing clear: we won’t see it at E3 this year. In fact, we probably won’t hear about it at E3 this year at all.

“I think it’s pretty safe to say that we’re not going to have a lot to say about this for the rest of the year,” he says, “honestly, with all the work we have to do on Reach and how excited we are about that game.”

So no new Bungie IP at E3 this year, but expect plenty of Halo: Reach “surprises.”

“I think the stuff we’re gonna show at E3 for Reach is really, really great, you know,” he continues. “If you thought Halo had no more surprises in store for you, just wait until we hit E3, and you’ll see what Reach has in store.”
