Brink devs talk ending a genre

Brink, according to developer Splash Damage, is set to redefine what we think of when talking first-person shooters. In fact, in its latest developer diary called “The End of a Genre As We Know It,” the developers thinks such labels might be meaningless.

It’s how Brink bridges the gap between single player and multiplayer, or “blurring the lines” between online and offline gaming. It’s how the player sets the pace of the story, or chooses how he or she wants to contribute to the battle by using the game’s dynamic mission system.

Sure, in Brink you’ll be able to shoot the crap out of things with some cool guns. It’s a shooter at heart. But it also promises to be so much more than that. Can Splash Damage pull it off? They certainly are talking big. The game’s out spring 2011 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC; we’ll just have to wait and see.
