The most striking thing about Shaun White Skateboarding for the Wii is how it fells like the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater games. Instead of taking the realistic approach many skateboarding games take now, Shaun White Skateboarding has a very arcade-like feel and is all about letting you perform over-the-top tricks.

You’ll be skating in a city controlled by a mayor who has restricted all forms of fun. Everything is gray, dull and lifeless and it’s up to you to bring back color to the world. As you perform tricks and complete challenges, color will spring back to life in the environment. So it’s kind of like the movie Pleasantville, but instead of sex you’re doing tricks to bring back the happy.

Controls are pretty simple. The Nunchuk steers your skater and doing different motions with the Wiimote in conjunction with the A and B button will let you do tricks. You’ll also be able to use the Balance Board, good news for those of you who are still trying to justify owning one.

Shaun White Skateboarding will have five multiplayer modes for up to four players as well. Modes will consist of the standard affair, such as racing or scoring the most points by doing tricks.

All in all, the game is fun and a great change of pace to what we’re currently used to. Of course, if you are looking for more of the standard affair, then the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of Shaun White Skateboarding will be more up your ally.
