Bowser trying to impress elephant Peach is what I needed to get me through a Wednesday

Bowser is a real one

I’m into how weird Super Mario Wonder is. Look, all the obvious jokes about shrooms have already been made, but this game looks strange on the whole. That’s a great thing, as 2D Mario has been formulaic throughout its history, so we could use a change-up. I’m just glad we’re presumably done with the “New” series: I mean, it’s not new anymore!

All that to say, I just really wanted to share this strange promotional tweet of Bowser being really into an elephant Peach (which is also on YouTube as a short).

Peach speaks (kinda)

In the short 30-second promotional video, Bowser tries to impress Princess Peach with a bouquette of flowers (as he does), and an Elephant Fruit sidles up to the duo and turns Peach into an elephant. After his initial shock, Bowser immediately proposes (we assume) to Peach again. Classic Bowser, completely undeterred by pretty much anything in his life. I can’t wait to see him again in Super Mario RPG: he’s been missed.

Interestingly enough, this is also a brief look at the voice of Peach, amid a major casting change for Mario. Just give us the full voice credits already, Nintendo! I want to see who has been replaced.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is out on Switch on October 20, and I can’t wait to see what it can do. I have a feeling that what Nintendo has shown off so far is just scratching the surface, which would be the shot in the arm the 2D series needs right now.
